Insights
From Fazzi's December OASIS-C Skills
Assessment Testing Results
Question: I heard that Fazzi just
completed an OASIS-C test with over 5,000 clinicians.
Do you have any insights as to specific problem
areas clinicians are struggling with in the revised
assessment document?
Answer: Our very first OASIS Skills
Assessment Testing session including OASIS-C has
indeed ended, and we made some amazing discoveries.
In total, we had almost 5,300 clinicians from 146
agencies complete the test. Participating agencies
ranged from small rural agencies to very large home
care networks. In all, over 30 states were represented.
What did we learn from this OASIS-C based testing
period? The answer is a lot! Here are just a few
of our discoveries:
-
The average clinician score was
73.87%, down from 77% on our September OASIS B-1
test in September. Scores ranged from 24% - 100%.
-
The average time needed to complete
the test was 112 minutes. This increased from
60 minutes on our September test.
-
Auditors received the highest
average score (83.5%), followed by managers (81%),
therapists (73%) and registered nurses (72%).
Both therapists and registered nurses scored lower
in this test, however auditors and managers average
scores remained the same.
-
Testers from Oregon scored the
highest cumulative percentage with an average
score of 84%.
-
The highest scoring agency received
an average score of 93% for all tested clinicians.
Twenty-six agencies scored in the 80 - 90% average
range.
-
(M1910) Has this patient had
a multi-factor Fall Risk Assessment was the most
frequently missed assessment item with only 28%
responding correctly. The second most frequently
missed question was (M0104) Date of Referral with
only 36% responding correctly.
As we continue to analyze the data,
there is no doubt that we will unveil even more discoveries
that are sure to help agencies make improvements with
their OASIS assessments. One thing is clear, as with
most changes, things will get worse before they get
better. What's most important is that you start recognizing
where improvements can be made within your own agency
and begin implementing a system to improve these problem
areas. OASIS-C trainings, whether online or on-site,
are a great start. Fazzi's monthly online OASIS NP
Trainings always focus on the most problematic OASIS
items. You should also regularly assess your clinician
skill levels on an agency-wide and individual basis
to ensure that your training targets the areas you
need it most.
